RunOurCity Foundation

SEN Student Services

In Hong Kong, about 8% of school-aged youth have special educational needs (SEN), and they face challenges in daily tasks, which include learning and socializing. These students are often being misunderstood and labeled as “uncooperative” or “troublesome.” Meanwhile, families and caregivers bear a heavy burden in caring for them.

“Run To Transform” is the guiding belief of RunOurCity. We aspire to inspire lives through running! Our aim is to create a platform to support SEN students. Through systematic running training, focused group activities and the provision of a caring and inclusive environment, SEN students can learn self-regulation skills, improving their execution, learning, social, and emotional management abilities. These benefits of running training alleviate symptoms and potentially reduce dependence on medication. More importantly, we help them build confidence and realize their potential.

The program will collect data on participants before and after training to assess its effectiveness. We hope that professional analysis and academic research will help us further optimize and develop future running and sports-related programs for SEN students, benefiting more youth and families.

SEN students can also be “overlooked treasures.” By paying attention to their strengths, we discover that each of them has unique shining qualities! Even starting from different points, they can still embark on a fulfilling life journey.

The Wind x Youth.ONE 2022

RunOurCity has launched the Youth.ONE long-distance coach training program to assist young people in planning their career paths in sports field. YOUTH.ONE employs a highly practical training system to teach participants, allowing them to discover their interest in long-distance running and personal potential while learning skills in running training, communication, and leadership development.

In addition, YOUTH.ONE educates participants to share social responsibilities with RunOurCity to explore community needs, receive volunteer training, and serve disadvantaged groups with empathy, thereby creating social benefits and becoming unique, exceptional long-distance coaches. Upon successful completion of the training and assessments, participants will automatically become part of the Youth.ONE coaching staff, starting as assistant coaches to gain practical experience.

The curriculum consists of five modules (approximately 130 hours of in-person class and practical training).

The Wing X Youth.ONE 2022 is a key project under ‘’The Wind’’ of K&K Charity.

This program targets adolescents with special learning needs, providing them with skills in long-distance running, with the aim of helping them rebuild confidence, enhance problem-solving abilities, improve communication skills and unlock their potential.
